Iran Equips, Renovates Farmlands

TEHRAN Nov. 24 (Mehr News Agency) – Some 63,000 hectares of farmlands have been equipped by Iran’s Ministry of Agricultural-Jihad during the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2003), the minister said here Sunday.

Mahmud Hojjati, who was speaking in the local water and soil office in Karaj, added that the process of equipment and renovation of Iran’s farmlands will progress only if farmers actively take part in it. “Of course, we should try to meet their needs in return.”

 

He also pointed to the remarkable capacities of agriculture industry in Iran, saying that public engagement and cooperation along with utilization of appropriate management systems will surely fulfill the objectives.

 

In addition, he added that, on completion of the ten-year development plan for fringe irrigation networks, some 4.1 billion cubic meters of water would be saved for the agricultural section. “The volume of agricultural products will also experience a 3.9 million ton growth by then,” Hojjati stated.
